ThedevelopmentalWorkbook(DW)isa recordofa student’s ideas as they develop within anartform,aswellastheirown developmentasanartist.
ThepurposeoftheDWistoencourage andrecordexperimentationandcritical thinking.Itprovidestheopportunityfor writtenandnon-verbalreflectionand shouldbebothsourceandstimulusfor dialoguebetweenthemselvesand others.
Emphasisisplacedonthedevelopmental natureoftheworkbookratherthansimply theevaluationofoutcomes.Allstagesof makingintheartsshouldberecorded fromconceptiontoperformanceordisplay oftheresultsoftheartmakingprocess. StudentsmustusetheDWthroughoutthe fiveyearsoftheMYPprogramme.
Investigation(CriterionA) Thiscanbeintheformofaudio,digital, visualimagerybutmustalsoincludewritten passagesofcommentaryandanalysis.
Creation(CriterionB) Thisincludesrecordsoftheprocessofcreatingusinga varietyofmedia.Theseincludeexperiments, theprocess fortestingappropriatenessofform andidentifying strengthsandweaknesswithintheprocessofmaking.
Reflection(CriterionC) Thisshouldincludecriticalreflectionsthatinformthe processofmaking,recognizediscoveriesandidentify possiblechangesordirections.Theseshouldbe evaluativereflectionsonthecapacityoftheartwork toreflecttheideabothinitsinformativeand completedform.
