Challenges Expanding Population 2002 14580 2012 15858 Changing Demographics
General Strategy • Look for Natural Savings • Look for Efficiencies • Trim around the Edges • Minimize Long Term Negative Effects • Simplify Administrative Requirements while maintaining key safeguards
More Specific Strategies • Savings from Delayed STS Placements • Modifying FI Payment Structure • Moving People from Budgets to Contracts • Reducing One Times • Mix of funding reductions • Some that impact everyone providing a service • Some focused on legacy funding levels
Coming Attractions • Reductions will take place in January with any retroactivity collected February through June • Legislative Session • Additional Proposed DDS Cut of $5,379,719 • Working together to decrease reliance on 24 hour staff approaches
Final Thoughts • For many years now the service system has not helped more people to get real jobs or live more independently. • As part of the service system we are about to deal with adversity, the likes of which we have not gone through in many years. • The best way we can minimize the impact of Number 2 is to get better at Number 1.
