WrittenComprehension: questions on a text The text The questions • Ratherdifficult: • Long • Specificvocabulary • Idiomatic expressions and structures • Cultural references • 3 types of questions: • On explicit elements of the textspotting information in the text • On the implicitelements of the text analysis • Translation of a passage of the text

Essay: 300 wordsand a choice of 2 types of topics Imagination Discussion • End of the story/ whathappensnext • Dialogue • A letter • Alwayscloselyrelated to the text • About one issue or problemraised by the text • Giveyour opinion • Justifywith arguments • Giveexamples • Sometimesloselyrelated to the text

  7. Essay: Gradingcriteria • Respect of the instructions (number of words, presentation, dealingwith the subject) • Vocabulary + grammar • Coherence/organization of yourideas linkwords • Ideas/ arguments

Level B2: by the end of the yearyoushouldbe able to: • Understand TV shows, news, speeches, debates • Understandliterarytexts, newspaper articles in with a particular point of view. • Communicatenaturallywith native speakers, and giveyour opinion and defendyourviews. • Express yourselvesfluently on topicsthatinterestyou and give the pros and the cons of different solutions to a problem • Writecoherent and detailedtexts about topicsthatinterestyou + giveyour opinion or interpretation of a particulartopic.

  10. A lot to do in verylittle time (2 hours/week) So we have no time to waste…

Respect some basic rules • Do yourpreparation/homeworkat home: • One chance per trimester, afterthis extra-work or detention • Bringyourownequipment (pens, highlighters, copybook, book whenneeded) • No chewinggum in class • No chatting in class  befocused • Put your hand up • Switch off your phones please!!

  12. To make the most of your English class…. • Speak English at all times please !! (even in groups) • If youneedsomevocabulary, ask me or the class (in English) and we’llbeglad to help you! • If you do not understand, ask for help!
