Department of Plant protection/National Plant Protection Organization Of Pakistan. • Department of Plant protection/National Plant Protection Organization Of Pakistan was the subordinate Department of Ministry of Food and Agriculture and is established under IPPC Art iv.A. The Department is a Signatory of International obligations Such as SPS, IPPC, WTO, GATT and Follow all obligations in letter and spirit.
Special Note • The ministry of Food and Agriculture was devolved on 30th June 2011, and the department is attached with the Ministry of Commerce. The new instruction of Ministry of Commerce and necessary changes will be informed accordingly to IPPC secretariat and Director General, FAO and the contracting parties

Legislation • Plant Quarantine act 1976 and rules 1967 are implemented. The new plant Quarantine act submitted to EX Ministry of Food and Agriculture in the light of IPPC and other International obligations approval is awaited. • The rules are also suggested to b revised according to IPPC and other international obligations
Import Restrictions, Prohibitions etc • The plant material is accepted in Pakistan through Pest Risk Analysis • The Plant material to be exported according to the requirement of country of origin
Regulated/Quarantine Pest • The list of regulated pest is being compiled by the Quarantine experts in the country keeping in view some pests intercepted time to time in the consignments • The list after finalization will be provided to IPPC secretariat and FAO.
Implementation of ISPMs • The NPPO Pakistan is implementing International standards in letter and spirit where applicable. The contracting parties will be informed accordingly regarding implementation of relevant ISPMS and to IPPC Secretariat and DG FAO • Information if any new pest/disease is noticed will be communicated to IPPC Secretariat
Action Plan • The NPPO will inform any change of the contact point, IPP editor in future and will update regarding implementation of international standards to Contracting parties, IPPC secretariat • The NPPO Plant Quarantine staff was provided training by PRAL, Federal board of revenue. The Electronic phytosanitary certificate will be issued by December 2011
Action Plan • The phytosanitary certificate of DPP/NPPO Pakistan is revised according to ISPMs 12 and contracting parties have been informed regarding its implementation by September 2011 • Due to stop fake certification this revised certificate with secret marking will b issued • For information exchange DPP/NPPO has decided to purchase computer setup and DSL Internet connections to all Plant Quarantine stations
Action Plan • The online phytosanitary certification is in progress with Pakistan Revenue Automation limited (PRAL) Department of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) • The official pest reports will be conveyed to IPPC secretariat if any incidence of pest and disease is reported in the country • Emergency action • The IPPC secretariat will be informed on emergency basis if any Pest and disease is detected to be potential threat to its territories and the territories of any Contracting parties
