Graduation Requirements • 24 credits 2.00 unweighted GPA • 16 required courses & 8 electives • Fsa Ela (or concordant score) ACT (19 reading) SAT (430 CR or 24 reading) • Algebra 1 eoc (or concordant score) pert (97 math) NOTE: PLATO, ACE AND ONLINE COURSES MUST BE DONE BY 5/4/2018; ATTENDANCE FAILURES MUST BE CLEARED AS WELL

  3. Applying to College • Families should be able to answer the following questions for themselves: • Does your student like school? Have he/she been successful? • What institutions best fit the student’s academic and social interests? educational objectives? • How much is the family able to reasonably afford to help the student meet his or her educational goals?

  4. Community & State Colleges • Admission based on High School Diploma • will need to take the PERT unless exempted by SAT/ACT scores

Community & State Colleges • Many community colleges have become State Colleges that offer 4-year degrees • Many of the Community Colleges offer degrees from partner universities (e.g. TCC has Flagler) • Benefits: • Class size, costs, teachers • Multiple degrees: AA, AS, Certificate • AA guarantees admission to SUS, but not to specific programs • Many have honors programs

State University System (sus) Minimum Admissions Requirements • Universities base their admission criteria on minimums set by Florida Board of Governors Regulations; however, they may establish higher standards • First Time In College students applying to the SUS may be considered for admission based on the following criteria: • a 2.50 or higher grade point average (GPA) on a 4.00 scale as calculated by the university • present an official SAT and/or ACT score, and • meet the requirements for college level placement per Board of Governors Regulation 6.008 and high school credits (see next slide)

Admission Advice • Apply early! • READ and SAVE all materials: • Tuition Deposit Deadlines • Housing Deposit deadlines • Orientation Deposit deadlines • Admission is based on satisfactory completion of senior year – CAN RESCIND ADMISSION for poor senior grades, dropped classes or disciplinary infractions!

  17. The process: • Apply online, either through our institutional application or The Coalitionapplication. Students should only submit one application. • Create your Self-reported Student Academic Record (SSAR) • Submit the following items on the Application Status Check by the application deadline: • Self-report all ACT and/or SAT test scores • Link your SSAR • Choose one of five essay questions and upload your essay • Upload one resume • Complete the Residency Declaration for Tuition Purposesform • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), using the IRS Data-Retrieval Tool. The FAFSA should be submitted no later than December 1 for priority consideration for financial aid. Please note that letters of recommendation are not required and will not be used in the decision-making process.

  18. fsu honors programFSU HONORS PROGRAM • 2017 Average Accepted Student Profile for Honors: • 4.4 weighted GPA • 1500 SAT/ 33ACT • Evaluated based on, but not limited to: ACT/SAT scores, high school GPA, strength of curriculum, number of courses at the honors level or higher, honors and awards, extracurricular achievements, and unique individual talents • Essay and application required • The Honors application is due by 11:59pm EST on February 14, 2018.

  19. fsu Scholarships • All accepted FSU students will be considered for merit scholarships – separate application is not required. Students should be admitted by 1st notification for full consideration. • Students who are admitted into the Honors Program have the opportunity to apply for the Honors Medical and Legal Scholars Program, two professional track programs that give undergraduates a head start in these careers– must apply by November 1st

Applying to FAMU www.famu.edu Admissions fee: $35 Applications done through collegenet • Summer admissions: march 1 • Final Deadline: May 1 for Fall • Priority deadline for scholarship consideration: November 30th • The application, application fee, ALL transcripts, official test scores, and supporting documents must be received by the deadline.

FAMU Honors & Scholarships • scholarships can only be applied for after you are admitted • To be considered for scholarships, you MUST meet ALL the following criteria: • Be a current FAMU student with a full-time enrollment status. • Completed the Free Application for Federal Aid (FAFSA) on file with the university. • All high school graduates with a minimum GPA of 3.50 on a 4.0 scale, and 1200 on the SAT or 27 on the ACT, are invited to apply for admission to the University Honors Center.   Complete application packets must be submitted with the following information: • Two letters of recommendation • A copy of the high school transcript •  Writing sample

UF Innovation Academy • IA program focused on innovation, creativity, entrepreneurship, ethics and leadership • Spring / Summer Academic Year • Fall semester – study abroad, internships, research • Same selective holistic review - applicants express their IA interest in the application and intended major

Uf pacepathway to campus enrollment • provides freshmen with the opportunity to start their UF degree online and then transition to campus in order to complete an undergraduate degree • Through PaCE they are able to expand admission offers to more of the best and brightest students • Applicants are considered for PaCE through the regular freshman application

  29. UF Honors Program • 2017 Accepted Honors Freshman Profile - Middle 50% Range: GPA: 4.5-4.7 SAT: 1980-2230 (old); 1350-1480 (new) ACT: 30-34 2017 Acceptance rate: 43% Students must complete their online Honors application by March 1 at 11:59pm EST.

Self Reported Academic Record • Fsu and uf require an ssarnot a transcript for application • submitted separately from the application, but required for the application to be complete. • Use the academic history report mailed home over the summer to fill out • Additional copies can be requested in the main office for $1 • Do NOT Send Transcripts to fsu or UF until admitted and transcripts are final

Early decision vs. early action • Early decision plans are binding — a student who is accepted as an ED applicant must attend the college. • Early action plans are nonbinding — students receive an early response to their application but do not have to commit to the college until the normal reply date of May 1. • Approximately 450 colleges have early decision or early action plans, and some have both. • Some colleges offer a nonbinding option called single-choice early action, under which applicants may not apply ED or EA to any other college.

BRIGHT FUTURESGENERAL REQUIREMENTS • Be a Florida resident and a U.s. citizen • Complete the ffaa • Earn a standard Florida high school diploma or its equivalent • Not have been found guilty of, or pled to, a felony charge • Be accepted and enrolled in a degree or certificate program at an eligible Florida public or independent post secondary institution • Be enrolled in at least 6 non-remedial semester credit hours per term
