IEEE Virtual Conference on Applications of Commercial Sensors (IEEE VCACS) Motivation Approach Conference Details How to Participate March 15, 2016
IEEE VCACS • Motivation • The Sensors Council and its 26 Member Societies desire closer ties with industry, students, and young professionals. • The Council wants to implement new low-cost, high-benefit activities for students, young professionals, and industry using IEEE’s traditional technical conference planning tools. • This virtual conference is the first endeavor of our new initiative.
IEEE VCACS • Approach • Use the existing IEEE Conference infrastructure to organize the virtual meeting. • Charge no conference registration fee. • Post prerecorded videos on the conference website. • Publish the Conference Proceedings in IEEE Xplore. • Select conference presentations that are sensor-related and appeal to industry and our Member Societies. • Attract industry patrons to support specific topics. • Bring Best-Paper awardees to participate in the annual conferences of the Council and/or sponsoring Member Societies.
IEEE VCACS • Conference Details • Prototype Requirements: We want authors to describe and demonstrate their working sensor/microprocessor systems. • Submission Requirements: • Recording: A 15-minute mp4 file (using Windows PPT, Camtasia, or similar); include views of your working prototype. • Paper manuscript: IEEE journal style two-column layout DOC (no page limit). • Ancillary files: A zip file with PPT slides, computer codes, circuit layouts, parts list, CAD files, etc. (all the details). • Submissions Open: March 15, 2016. • Submissions Close: December 15, 2015. • Continuing Sessions: June 15, 2016. New presentations and their ancillary design files are posted online as they are accepted. Participants view presentations via streaming video and provide questions for speakers via Twitter.
IEEE VCACS • Conference Details • Paper Submissions and Review Process: Conference Catalysts and EDAS provide the manuscript submission and review site. • Conference Proceedings: The proceedings will be prepared by Conference Catalysts and published in IEEE Xplore in early 2017. • Conference Registrations: There are no traditional conference registration fees. Registrants join our mailing list. A MailChimp Forms opt-in conference announcements distribution list has been established for the Virtual Conference Series. Periodic announcements are sent to conference participants showing new presentations that have been posted to the conference website.
