Max’s Guide to Pollution Hey kids! My name is Max, and today I’m going to tell you all about pollution! Along the way you are going to use buttons to navigate, or move, around the guide! Click this button to go back! Click this button to move forward!
WHAT IS POLLUTION? Click the play button to watch this video and see what you are going to learn about in Max’s Guide to Pollution!!
There are three main types of pollution. Click the arrow to learn about air pollution. Water Pollution! Soil Pollution! Air Pollution!
Air Pollution One type of pollution is air pollution. Follow me to learn what causes air pollution and what you can to to stop it.
CARS CAUSE POLUTION! Have you ever noticed that the city and the country smell different? This is because the fumes from cars make the city’s air dirtier!
Industrial Revolution Factories are another big cause of pollution. One thing that has caused air quality to be bad over time was the Industrial Revolution. During the Industrial Revolution, many factories were built that burned harmful coal, creating a dirty fog called smog in the air.
Why does it matter? Sometimes the things that make our life easier are not always good for our environment! Cars, factories, and electricity are all things we cannot imagine living without, but they still have a negative effect on our environment and even us. All living creatures need clean air to breath and live!
What Can I Do? I know it seems like air pollution is a problem that cannot be avoided, but there are many things children can do to help decrease air pollution. One thing you can to is ride your bike, walk, or carpool to use your car as little as possible!
What Can I Do? Another big cause of pollution in cigarette smoke. If your parents smoke, you can politely ask them to smoke outside. For your safety and the safety of those around you, do NOT start smoking.
Water Pollution Wow, we are learning so much! Click the arrow to learn about the next type of pollution, water pollution.
Cause of Water Pollution The environment suffers when residue from parking lots make their way into these bodies of water
Causes of Water Pollution The more populated the environment is, the harder it is to keep this pollution under control. The more people, the more waste and cars causing the water to be less clean.
Causes of Water Pollution Another problem that arises is when hazardous chemicals get into our water. This could be a dangerous fertilizer or any toxic waste.
Why Does It Matter? The water in our rivers, lakes, and oceans effect our environment and all the living organisms that live in it.
What Can You Do? The trash you leave on the road or near a body of water could get in the water and hurt the fish and other creatures. DO NOT LITTER!!!!
Soil Pollution So far, we have learned about air and water pollution. Now it is time to learn about our third type of pollution, soil pollution!!
Causes of Soil Pollution The soil becomes polluted when farmers treat the soil with fertilizers to make the crops larger and pesticides to keep the insects away.
Why Does it Matter? Soil is a mixture of minerals, plants, and animal remains that have turned into soil over thousands of years. The soil in our environment effects our water quality and plants. If the soil has toxins in it, the plants absorb it and it is passed on to humans when they eat them.
What Can I do? Next time you are working in the garden, make sure to use safe fertilizers!!!
