UC Berkeley CS160 Sprint 2014 User Interface Design CookBuddy AayushDawra Allison Leong David (Sijia) Li Justin MacMillin PrashanDharmasena Group: IDEO https://github.com/iamadawra/CookBuddy Cooking, fast and easy. Target User Our application targets novice cooks who want to cook, but prefer to spend as little time as possible in the kitchen. These users might struggle to make dishes as simple as macaroni and cheese. However, they are well versed in social media and enjoy sharing what recipes they do know. Problem Young professionals often want to cook but have little free time and are inexperienced in the kitchen. They turn to their smart phones to search for recipes online, but cooking is messy work, and scrolling through a recipe using touch leaves phones greasy and soiled. Design Evolution Initially our application was a basic storage for recipes that allowed users to go through recipes using voice recognition. Later on, we realized the application could be more suited for novice cooks with the following added features: Call the author of the recipe 1 Set a timer for individual steps in a recipe 2 Solution CookBuddy is a mobile app with a database of recipes and recipe-sharing capabilities. CookBuddy sorts recipes by time so that busy cooks can find recipes that fit their schedules. CookBuddy also offers hands-free voice-controlled navigation through recipes to prevent the dirtying of phones during the cooking process. Users can ask someone (that they know) questions about the recipe while cooking. Timer can be set manually or using voice control. These features are designed to reduce confusion and speed up preparation time. Final Prototype Help Page Step 1 of the recipe Recipe Landing Page Help Page CookBuddy Home Page User can set a timer CookBuddy enables hands-free recipe navigation using voice-control. The application supports putting up the user’s own recipes for both the user and her friends to use, and allows the user to access recipes that people (in their phonebook) post. While cooking, the user can use his or her voice to call the author of that recipe, navigate through the recipe, set a timer, or return to the home page. Our goal with this application was to make it the one and only mobile application a user needs when preparing food. .
