  4. OPENING STATEMENTMy name is Lindsy Bissonnette. I am a double major in Theater and Communications with a minor in Leadership. I am currently studying at the University of Rhode Island. I learned a lot about myself in HDF 190 including how to be a better leader and how I can improve myself to help others.

  5. SECTION 1 SELF LEADERSHIP (1 Highlighted outcome) Student will demonstrate personal, organizational, and academic examples of self-discipline HDF 190 RLS 131 Girl Scouts  South Kingstown High School Freshman Mentoring Program 09-10 Asian Philosophy and Religion 131  Tap Dance Lesson In Girl Scouts being organized is extremely important. Keeping together all of your badge work, all of your timelines and schedules, it gets very complicated. So I used my strength of Strategy and put all of my notes into one notebook where I keep all of my badge work, my silver and gold award and Laura’s silver award and any notes I have. When I was a Freshman Mentor at South Kingstown High School we had to stay very organized. We had to make sure we stayed on track so that our freshman could get the most possible out of the mentor program. I used my strength of Strategy and kept all of my notes in my binder and kept a planner with me at all times so that I was ready to write down any notes and dates as they came. In my Asian Philosophy Class we had to do many activities involving self discipline, one in particular was about Buddhism where for one entire day we had to live our life as if we were a follower of Buddhism. I used my strength of Diligence and appreciation of beauty and excellence to make sure that I followed all of the rules and lived my day fully to the extent of Buddhism as I could. In my tap class we are given CD;s and tap sheets, which are pieces of paper with colored columns and the tap moves written on them to whatever tap piece we are working on. So I decided to get paper protectors and keep the papers nice and neat which uses my strengh of love of beauty and excellence and diligence and strategy. Evidence: Badge Book, Freshmen Mentoring Card, Passage from Buddhism book, Tap notes

  6. SECTION 2 Leadership Theory and Models (1 Highlighted outcome) Students will demonstrate knowledge of the “4 V’s” theory of leadership by Grace (Center for Ethical Leadership) HDF 190 HDF 190   Comm 100 RLS 131 In HDF 190 we learned about the 4 V model, Values, Vision, Voice and Virtue and about how inside the four V model is also Renewal, Service and Polis. We spent a while talking about what each of the four V’s meant; to us, to our culture, to other cultures and interpretations. We also talked about the “Common Good” which relates to my strength of Strategy, the idea of strategy is finding a more efficient way to reach the common good. In Communications 100 we talk about ethics and cultural differences and what they meant to people. We often talk about the components of this model especially Values and Polis (the Greek term for Politics) and how in different cultures different things are valued and regarded “virtue” In Asian Philosophy we also talked a lot about different Visions and Values in different cultures, and what Voice and Politics mean to those different cultures. I used my strength of Strategy to better understand the cultures and religions we were studying so that I could better understand the readings and better involved myself in the projects. Evidence: 4V’s section, Communications Book

  7. SECTION 3 Inclusive Leadership / Diversity and its application to leadership (1 Highlighted outcome) Student will show knowledge of principles of critical thinking (logic is used in this minor) HDF 190 Learning Contract I used logic and critical thinking while working on my Learning Contract in many ways. First I had to make the appointments with Paula McGlasson, head of the Theater Department here at the University of Rhode Island, and I had to ask to rent out the space in which we would be using to facilitate the audition workshop (which was G Studio). Next I had to connect with the Stage Manager for the show A View from the Bridge, Travis Greene and notify him that we would be in G Studio during their run of their own show (I had to do this in case for any reason we became locked out of the space and needed to be let back in, or if the cast was looking to use the space to rehearse, I had to let him know that there would be a workshop taking place in there) This utilizes my strengths of Diligence and Appreciation of Beauty because I had to be diligent about making sure we had proper clearance use of the space so that if anyone wanted to use the space, I could have the proper authority to tell them that I had reserved the space, and it uses my appreciation of beauty because the workshop took place solely for the fact that students could rehearse potential audition pieces and improve. Evidence: Learning Contract.

  8. SECTION 4 Critical Thinking (1 Highlighted outcome) Student will demonstrate knowledge of active listening techniques HDF 190 Learning Contract Communications 100 While participating and facilitating my Learning Contract, listening was a very important part. I paid close attention to each and every audition piece so that I could properly give adequate feedback so help improve the audition preparation etc. This used my strengths of Strategy, because I used different listening techniques that I learned in my Communications class and applied them to the students that performed. Evidence: Learning Contract, Comm notes

  9. SECTION 5 (Interpersonal and Organizational Concepts and Skills ) (1 Highlighted outcome) 66. Student will create a personal code of inclusive leadership HDF 190 Learning Contract For my Learning Contract I facilitated an Audition Workshop at the Fine Arts Center on campus. On Sunday April 17th from 3:00-5:00 in G studio, ten students including myself performed a variety of different scenes, monologues and songs. I used me leadership strengths of Strategy and Humor and Playfulness to keep everyone on task and keep everyone’s focus on the performers to make sure that each and every performer felt included in the workshop which included maintaining quiet from the audience, keeping the audience organized when it came time for feedback, and making sure that every comment was constructive criticism but also kept the performances going so that there was little down time for people to become bored, and keep everyone happy and excited to be performing. Evidence: Learning Contract
