Why Standard 8: Advisory Committee and Community Relations
Who • Business and industry partners related to pathways • Representative from school community • Administrators • Counselors • Students • Parents • Teachers (academic, sending school, tech center)
What(creates a successful A.B.) • Determine the Objective of your Advisory Board
What(creates a successful A.B.) • Select and Contact Committee Members • Prepare a list of possible members • Work with administrators to make final selection • Contact selected members to determine interest in serving • Visit members who accept a position to answer questions and determine best times for meetings • Write personal letters of notification to each member
When • Review notes from meetings with individual members • Choose date and time with the least conflict • Early in the day • End of the day • Mail letter with date and time • Mail reminder cards • Call the day before the meeting
Where Choose an environment that will be comfortable and provide information about career major and pathways Provide food and/or gift of appreciation
How(to maintain and inform Advisory Board) • Keep profile of each Advisory Board member • Occupational title and place of employment • Prepare an agenda in advance • Keep minutes of each Advisory Board meeting • Mail to each member • Provide at next meeting and allow time for review
