Frank proceeds to introduce the tournament officials by name, and points out the defendants collectively wearing white, and the appellants collectively wearing the purple. ( spectators seating – grandstand/raised seating? ) 30’ • Post-lists exit setup • the Patron’s standard bearer inserts the Patron’s banner into the centre hole of the tournament standards/banner rack • standard bearers return to the area and insert their standards/banners into the racks at the rear of the lists • 4 volunteers retrieve the helms on the display tables and remove the tables from the lists • four marshals take their positions in the corners of the lists • King of Arms takes his position, centre at the rear of the lists • defendants’ and appellants’ heralds take their position on either side of the King of Arms • Defendants’ and appellants’ squires (heralds) take their position next to their respective pavilion • The first pair of combatants prepare by entering their respective pavilion and prepare with the aid of their arming squires • ….. ( spectators seating – grandstand/raised seating? ) 30’ • Start of the bout… • appellants’ actions: • At the signal from the King of Arms to begin the bout, the appellant’s squire carrying the appellant’s banner leads the appellant into the lists • The appellant’s Herald announces to the spectators, the name and bio (bio at first appearance only) of the appellant • The same squire then inserts the appellant’s banner on the appropriate side of the Patron’s banner in the tournament banner rack and positions him/herself on the appropriate side of the tournament rack • Then the squire proceeds to the tree of arms and strikes the shield denoting the defendant to be challenged in this bout along with striking the shields depicting the weapons to be employed in the bout • The appellant’s Herald announces to the spectators that a defendant has been selected and announces the weapons of choice • defendants’ actions…. ( spectators seating – grandstand/raised seating? ) 30’ • Start of the bout… • defendants’ actions: • The defendant’s squire (herald) carrying the banner of the defendant, leads the defendant into the lists • The defendant’s Herald announces to the spectators, the name and bio (bio at first appearance only) of the defendant • The same squire then proceeds to the tournament rack and inserts the defendant’s banner on the other side of the Patron’s banner and positions him/herself on the other side of the tournament rack • bout preparations: • An arming squire for the defendant and an arming squire for the appellant retrieves the weapons to be employed during the bout and gives the weapons to the combatants • They ensure that the harness, helm is ready for combat for their respective combatant and then exit the lists • The King of Arms enquire the combatants as to their readiness to begin and if so, commands the start of the bout ( spectators seating – grantstand/raised seating? ) ( spectators seating – grandstand/raised seating? ) 30’
