Logistics Management Units:Sustainable Support for the Supply Chain Workforce Naomi Printz, Senior Technical Advisor, USAID | DELIVER PROJECT Erin Hasselberg, Principal Advisor, Supply Chain Management System Project 26 July 2012
In-country supply chain questions: • How much stock is in-country? How long will it last? • What are the reporting rates for logistics data? • What is the national consumption for each product? • How much product is needed to meet program requirements? • What quantity of product is procured by different funding sources? At what time? Are there gaps? • Who is doing logistics trainings, when, and covering what material? Who has the answers?...

LMU function in action: Quantification in Zimbabwe ZIMBABWE’S LOGISTICS UNIT • Manages central level automated information system used for aggregating and analyzing reported logistics data used as primary source of data for quantification • Leads the annual quantification exercise and is responsible for updating the quantification and procurement plan quarterly • Manages supply plans and coordinates arrivals for all sources of commodities, identifies gaps and mobilizes resources to ensure continuous supply

LMUs strengthen & support the supply chain workforce by…. Monitoring proper use and application of SCM procedures and tools Providing timely, accurate data for decision-making Serving as the structure through which quality SCM practices are institution-alized Elevating SCM as a critical component of a successful health system
