  2. What is 1:1 TEL? One-to-one technology enhanced learning refers to learning in which every student is equipped with at least one wireless portable computing devices with Internet access and communication capabilities

  3. Why 1:1 TEL? • Seamless learning space • with respect to place and people • Integration of all TEL subfields • cognitive tools • intelligent learning environments • computer supported collaborative learning • mobile learning

  4. Why use the term “1:1”? • Arousing society’s attention of the imminent technological innovations in education • e.g. MIT $100 computer initiative for solving digital divide problem • The “1:1” term will not make sense after tens of year

  5. What is G1:1? • G1:1 is not offering any thing at the moment! • A social network, not a formal organization • At the core, G1:1 consists of some leading research groups and labs conducting significant 1:1 research across the globe

  6. What is G1:1? • Members having extensive connectivity to Kaleidoscope, ISLS, APSCE, IEEE, AIED, mLearn, and some SIGs • Past events were directly or indirectly supported by EU, NSF of USA, and NSC of Taiwan

The 1st Mission: Stimulating high quality 1:1 research • debating and critiquing what high quality research looks like • setting or attempting to set high standards for research outcomes • raising next directions of globally-important learning challenges • Ubiquitous learning, digital game based learning, biological learning • proposing an international research agenda • exploring seamless learning space • integrating various TEL subfield

The 2nd Mission: Informing global 1:1 movement • anticipating and preparing for the future • scenario-based planning to identify some trends and uncertainties in 2015 • digital learning games & peer tutoring will become prevalent • access of digital resources will be a part of human right • having a bigger voice if researchers speak together globally • promoting best practices of 1:1 TEL • addressing development and practice issues

  13. The 3rd Mission: Fostering 1:1 international research collaboration • complementing research strength • exploring learning with similar technologies across multiple cultures • exchanging graduate students • enhancing each other’s research initiatives

The 4th Mission: Establishing a global collaborative research community • a long term goal and evolving process • sharing and exchanging research outcome beyond research papers • possibly focusing on graduate student community • providing interaction opportunities for researchers, teachers, and industry in different parts of the world to interact
