Streetcar Vs. Light Rail • For our ABL project we chose the Modern Streetcar over the modern Light Rail system. • We chose the Modern Streetcar over the Modern Light Rail system because the Modern Streetcar is more easier to operate than the light rail system. • The Modern Streetcar has many different qualities that are more helpful than the light rail system. Some qualities are being able to minimize traffic & being able to move along streets.
More on Why We Chose Modern Street Car (Venn Diagram Presentation)
The Modern Streetcar • The Modern Streetcar is a form of transportation that is very accessible to many people. • Most modern streetcars are ran on electricity and some are ran on diesel fuel. • Streetcars usually run on tracks in the streets. They may also run in between towns, and cities.
Modern Streetcar Continued... • The streetcar is usually lighter and shorter than conventional trains. A streetcar may also run on ordinary railway tracks. • Some of the first streetcars were driven by horse; while others were operated by steam or being cable-pulled.
Modern Streetcar & Science • Science is a big element in any type of machine; in speaking of machines lets talk about all the simple machines that work together to make the modern streetcar the compound machine it is. • But before we explain what simple machines are present in a streetcar you need to know what a simple machine is. • A simple machine is a machine that makes work easier. There are 6 types of simple machines: Inclined Plane, wedge, screw, pulley, lever, and wheel and axle.
Simple Machines in a Streetcar • Some of the simple machines that are present in the modern streetcar is a wheel & axle, lever, and in some instances an inclined plane. • Some examples of the wheel & axle's that are present in the streetcar is the steering wheel, and the wheels, Inclined plane ex. ramp, lever ex. door.
Velocity and Acceleration • Velocity and acceleration are also other elements that are present in a streetcar. • Velocity is speed in a given direction. • Acceleration is a increase in speed or a change in direction. • Both of these elements are present in a streetcar because a streetcar is in motion and anything in motion either uses velocity or acceleration.
Energy Transformations • Some of the energy transformations that occur in a streetcar is chemical to mechanical, and chemical to electrical. • Due to the law of conservation of energy, energy is not created nor destroyed but transformed into different forms. • In conclusion we chose the modern streetcar for many reasons because it has many different scientific qualities such as simple machines, velocity and acceleration, and energy transformations that make it easier to use for everyone.
