Major Landforms • There is only one major landform in Barcelona. It is called Montjuïc. It is a very high hill and is called the “Jew Mountain.” • The body of water in Barcelona is the Mediterranean Sea. It is very important for Barcelona’s economy. This is a picture of Montjuic overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
General Information • Barcelona is a city in the country of Spain. • Even though Madrid is the capital of Spain, Barcelona is the country’s largest city. • This city is right on the Mediterranean Sea, so there are many cruise ships that go to the port, and boats also use this port for transporting goods. • The population of Barcelona is 1.621 million
Location Barcelona is located on the Mediterranean coast in the east of Spain. its latitude and longitude is 41.40°N, 2.17°E.

Sagrada Familia • It is a minor basilica consecrated by Pope Benedict the XVI. • Construction of La Sagrada Familia began in 1882. it is expected to finish before 2030.
Park Guell • Originally intended for a residential park intended for sixty single- family residences. • The project was unsuccessful and the park became city property in 1923.
La Rambla La Rambla is a group of shorter streets. Rambla de these streets are: • Ramba dels Canaletes - the site of the Font de Canaletes fountain. • Rambla dels Estudis - the site of the former Jesuit University, and is now the site of an open-air market • Rambla de Sant Josep (or de les Flors) - the site of an open-air flower market • Rambla dels Caputxins - the site of a former Capuchin monastery,now the Liceu operahouse • Rambla de Santa Mònica - an arts center
Port of Barcelona • It is catalonia's largest port. • It is also one of the most important ports in the Mediterranean. • In the central area, it has Maremagnum, a shopping mall, a multiplex cinema, the IMAX Port Vell,and Europe's largest aquarium, containing 8,000 fish and 11 sharks.
Flamenco Dancing • Flamenco is a form of Spanish folk music and dance from the region of Andalusia in southern Spain. • Flamenco originated among the Gypsies in the 18th century.
Economy • the currency of Barcelona is the euro. • Exports in the Barcelona area set a record high last year, reaching a total value of 42,036 million euros. • Barcelona is also famous for modern art and furniture. • Textiles, machinery, cars, trains, planes, and electrical equipment are the chief manufactures.
Government The Mayor of Barcelona is Xavier Trias. The government of Spain is a Constitutional Monarchy. The king of spain is Juan Carlos.
Language • The languages of Barcelona are Spanish and Catalan. • Other minor languages include: *English *French *Italian • Many of the schools now teach these minor languages because of all the tourism.
La Merce festival • Barcelona La Mercè lasts for around 5 days and is a festival held in honour of Mare de Deu de la Merce, the Patron Saint of Barcelona. • The festival, which officially first took place in 1902, ends summer and begins autumn.
Food in Barcelona The most famous food in all of Barcelona is Paella. It is a mix of seafood, vegetables and bomba beans with rice. It is delicious! You can find it on the beach in Barcelona or at a local cafe. It is a must-do here! YUM!
FUN FACTS • At Sagrada Familia, Mass is only celebrated once a month. • An accident occurs in Barcelona every nineteen seconds. It is one of the worst places to drive in the world. • It was number one for best beaches in the world.
