Battle of Killiecrankie • When the Government troops reached the northern end of the Pass of Killiecrankie, the Jacobites charged down the hill where the trees stopped on the July 27, 1689 • The Highlanders fired their single shot muskets then proceeded to use their broadswords to hack at the Government soldiers who were srewing on their bayonets. The Government soldiers were also ill trained • The Jacobites won the battle in a few minutes. The Government troops fled, 2000 killed or captured • General Mackay just managed to escape
Dundee’s Death • Bonnie Dundee was shot under the armpit as he raised his targe at the end of the battle of Killiecrankie • Some even say he was shot by his own man, the bullet deflecting off something • He died as a result of the wound on the same day, July 27th 1689, at Blair Castle
Aftermath of Killiecrankie • A few months the later the Jacobites were defeated at Dunkeld • John Graham of Claverhouse was named ‘Bonnie Dundee’ or ‘Bonny Dundee’ a few years after the battle of Killiecrankie • He is also called ‘Bluidy Clavers’ for his ruthlessness to the Covenanters
