  6. Conrad Schumann est le premier évadé du mur. Bien que la RDA qualifie de crime dès 1954 tout passage à l'Ouest sans autorisation, la frontière avec la RFA reste "virtuelle" jusqu'au 13 août 1961. Dans la nuit, des soldats est-allemands posent barbelés et premières pierres sur 43 kilomètres. Le 15 août, le jeune Hans Conrad Schumann, 19 ans, chargé de surveiller l'édifcation du mur, saute les barbelés pour rejoindre l'Ouest devant les yeux médusés de passants et de quelques photographes qui immortalisent l'instant. Souffrant de dépression, il se donnera la mort le 20 juin 1998. Pour les Berlinois, il reste un héros. • DR
