The Chosen Concept The Breadth Between Us – Jason is a man at the end of his tether and is approaching the end of a failing relationship with his mysteriously absent wife.
The Chosen Concept The Breadth Between Us – Jason is a man at the end of his tether and is approaching the end of a failing relationship with his mysteriously absent wife. To make things worse he has fallen in love with a woman he has never met.
The Chosen Concept • The Breadth Between Us – • Jason is a man at the end of his tether and is approaching the end of a failing relationship with his mysteriously absent wife. • To make things worse he has fallen in love with a woman he has never met. • No dialogue • Use of Comedy to show Jason’s loneliness
The Chosen Concept Characters – Jason – A keen angler who lacks basic domestic skills and feels stuck in a pointless partnership with his forever absent wife. However he has fallen in love with Sue. The only problem is he has never spoken to her.
The Chosen Concept Characters – Sue – Like Jason she is also a keen angler. She is single and openly flirts with Jason across the water of the pairs chosen fishing location. She finds Jason’s shyness appealing.
The Chosen Concept Characters – Claire – Jason’s wife who remains anonymous. Her only contact with him is via a series of note left around the house. She eventually leaves Jason which frees him to finally talk to Sue.
Influence The Beachcombers (Croucher, C. &Beynon, M. 2008.) Divided by the River Thames, and afraid to make the first move, shy recluses Simon and Claire are united by their fixation with beachcombing the riverbanks in search of rare antiquities.
The Production • Visual Style – • Canon DSLR camera (hand held) • Naturally Lit outside • The use of soft boxes for indoor shooting • De-saturated colour scheme with a “Filmic look” similar to Submarine (Ayoade, R. 2010.)
The Production • Sound – • Ambient sound recorded using a boom on location where possible • Only emotional scenes will be accentuated by music using acoustic guitar and piano
The Production • Locations: The River – • Quiet river with banks suitable for fishing on either side • Access for film equipment and crew on both sides
The Production • Locations: Jason’s House – • A small house to be occupied by a couple • Rooms needed; Living room, kitchen, hall way, bedroom and bathroom. • The house must be able to accommodate the crew and actors.
