Root Cause • Country under military occupation • Bombing • Living in fear – blackouts & desperation • Ethnic struggle – threatening & killing • Insurgents subversive action against the community
Outcome – (Results) • Migration: • Internal • External (outside country) • New Environment: • Hostile • Substandard accommodation • New fear – illegal status, family can not work or go to school • no friends – anxiety & depression
Outcome - (Results) • Deterioration of health Malnutrition and enuresis children • Abuse to family members • Husband • Wife • Adolescents - specially girls • children
Objectives: • Provide assistance to family: • Health • Education • Cash • Food packages • Shelter • Psychosocial counseling • Involve community
Objectives: • Provide special assistance to the elderly, family, adolescents and children. • Proper Shelter. • Health – (chronic diseases) • Provide special assistance to PWD’s • Disabilities
Constraints: • Psychosocial centers/clinics not sufficient • Clinical staff ( psychiatrists & clinical psychologists) not sufficient • Need for building professional capacity to existing counselors
Lessons learned: • Psychosocial issue in general should have been given earlier and bigger considerations • To enhance awareness amongst POC on psychosocial matters effecting members of their families (to combat stigmatization ) • To expand and avail psychosocial clinic and equip with suitable & experienced staff.
Final but very interesting fact • In the beginning of the program we only had 9 cases referred. • However the peak was over 1000 referrals in April & May. • The total number of referrals up to end of August was 17447, out of which only 6056 reported for counseling. (Stigmatization).
