Sailing into Excellence In Art!
Is everybody sitting “criss cross applesauce, hands in your lap?” Alright – let’s get started!
A little about me… • This is my seventh year teaching art here at CES. • I am married and I have two daughters, Mary Babb (5 years old) and Emma Rae (4 months). • I spent my summer vacation this year spending time with my girls! • Did you do something art-related this summer? If so, what did you do?
What are we going to do this year? • Each grade will participate in the Square #1 Art Fundraiser this year. That will be our first project. • We are going to learn about the Elements and Principles of ART and how to use them to make the best art possible. • Each grade will do at least one artwork in each of the following art forms: painting, drawing, design, collage, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, weaving, craft and mixed media. • Learn about different artists and cultures from around the world. • Use creativity and craftsmanship in everything we do!
I believe in each one of you and know that you all can make many masterpieces this year. In order to reach that success, you have to… Know what is expected of you!
I expect your class to earn a BRAVO each and every art class: Be prepared Respect people and property Actively participate Voices are soft Open your ears and be good listeners
Be prepared • Always have everything you need BEFORE you enter the art room. (You won’t be able to go back to your classroom. • Have an empty mouth that is ready to talk about ART! Please don’t bring any gum or candy – you will be asked to throw it away. • Go to the RR or water fountain BEFORE you come to ART! You can go to the bathroom for EMERGENCIES ONLY! • Come in ready to learn and work hard on your art projects and lesson activities – leave the “I can’t’s” at the door!
Respect people and property • Always leave the art room the way you found it – clean, materials put up in the right place, chairs pushed in, floor clean. • Only kind words and actions allowed – to others, to Mrs. Davis, to everything in the art room! • Listen while others are talking and don’t interrupt, please. • Raise your hand when you want to ask a question, say something, get up from your seat, or sharpen your pencil.
Actively participate • Always come in ready to listen to directions and the lesson, participate in all activities, and try your best at whatever art project we are working on! • Leave the “I can’t’s” at the door! • Help others when needed, even Mrs. Davis! • Stay on task for the whole class! • Use your time wisely – make awesome art!
Voices are soft • Be good listeners. • Quiet voices during studio time – we want to hear the concentration music! • Please don’t yell across the room or call out for Mrs. Davis – raising your hand will be fine. • Watch for Mrs. Davis’ signals to listen – which table can be 100% first?
Open your ears and be good listeners • Look at who ever is speaking with still bodies and closed mouths. • Raise your hand when you wish to speak. • Be a good friend and help others listen. • Follow directions.
