Tuned® Spacer VI Spacer Fluid SUBHEAD, 12PT ARIAL BOLD Title
Preparing the Wellbore to Receive Cement Tuned® Spacer VI System • Optimal mud removal system • Economically enables spacer fluid volume to be increased • Helps improve displacementefficiency
Tuned® Spacer VI Spacer Fluid – Benefits • Replaces water-based mud for displacing oil-based drilling fluid (OBM) • Enhances surface recovery of OBM • Increased spacer fluid volume helps improves wellbore cleanout and thus cement bonding • Fluid stability helps eliminate /reduce settling in horizontal wells • Rheological properties can be adjusted to optimize fluid train • Plastic viscosity (PV) • Yield point (YP) • Can reduce or eliminate use of surfactant package
Tuned® Spacer VI Spacer Fluid – Features • Density ranges from 8.15 lbm/gal to 14.0 lbm/gal • Superior suspension properties increases fluid stability • Helps mitigate solids settling of cuttings • Helps mitigate bridging off across thief zones • Avoids filtrate loss to the producing zones or fresh water aquifers • Maintains constant hydrostatic pressure
Tuned® Spacer VI Spacer Fluid – From the Field • Challenge: Achieve zonal isolation throughout the wellbore, from shoe to surface • Improve bond logs over wells previously cemented in the field • Avoid using WBM to mitigate casing failures due to corrosion • Solution: • Replace WBM with Tuned Spacer VI fluid • Utilize the settable properties of the spacer for a hydraulic seal above the top of cement to the surface • 50 bblof Tuned® Spacer III spacer fluid, 418 bbls of Tuned Spacer VI fluid followed by the lead cement slurry, cap and foam cement • Results: • Achieved full returns of Tuned Spacer VI fluid to surface and plug bumped • Bond logs indicated superior cement-sheath isolation and bonding above top of cement from Tuned Spacer VI fluid • Procedure has been adopted and successful in subsequent wells in the same field
Tuned® Spacer VI Spacer Fluid – From the Field CBL of offset wellshow annular seal Requiring remediation. CBL of well in which Tuned Spacer IV fluid was runshows excellent bonding. • Challenge: Cost Management • Optimize recovery of OBM • Decrease remediation costs incurred in similar offset wells (cement sheath de-bonding during completion operations) • Solution: Extend contact time of spacer for enhanced wellbore cleaning • 151 bbls Tuned Spacer VI fluidimmediately preceding 445 total bbls of primary cement • Results: • Significantly improved CBL • No remediation required after completion operations • CBLs showed complete coverage above top of cement due to cementitious set of remaining Tuned Spacer VI fluid CBL above TOC shows solid set and bonding of remaining Tuned Spacer VI fluid
Tuned® Spacer VI Spacer Fluid – Summary • Provides cost efficiencies • Increased spacer volume • Can replace WBM and optimize wellbore cleaning • Improved OBM recovery • Adjust density and rheology • Cementitious properties helps improve hydraulic seal • Fluid stability
