Privacy Guardian Walk Through • The Goal of the lab is to create a file and then permanently delete the file from the computer. • When we delete a file from our computer it is still stored on the hard drive but it’s just that we cannot see the link to the file unless we run a special program, but this tool will permanently delete the file from the computer.

Privacy Guardian Walk Through • Go to word or notepad and create a file including your name, address, current status (eg: freshman, sophomore, junior or senior), age and graduation date. • Go to the desktop and start up the program Privacy Guardian. • When the program has loaded click on the tab under select an action that says shred files.

24. Privacy Guardian Walk Through • After the file is added to the selected files the user can then choose to shred the file. When you choose to shred the file you will get a message asking if you are sure because the decision is not reversible and the file will be permanently removed. • Click OK • Once the file is shredded the file is no longer on the computer system or in the recycle bin. You can do a search of the computer to see if the file can be found.

Privacy Guardian Walk Through • Goal of lab: To delete cookie files from the computer by running Privacy Guardian. • Once Privacy Guardian is ran on the computer, the cookie files will be permanently deleted from the computer. This can be used as a security tool to ensure that cookies are removed from your computer on a regular basis.

26. Privacy Guardian Walk Through • Go to the desktop and start up the program Privacy Guardian. • When the program has loaded click on the tab under select an action that says shred files.

28. Privacy Guardian Walk Through • You then select to clean browser settings. Once you choose the browser that you are using you can choose cookies to keep and then you can clean the cookies off of your computer.

29. Conclusion • After doing weeks of research and using the tool Privacy Guardian by PC Tools we have seen how the tool can be used. Privacy Guardian is a tool that allows you to delete files completely off of your computer with no trace that the file was ever there. This is a good tool for ensuring that you really get rid of files. It is also a good tool for getting rid of unwanted cookies and you can delete cookies that you want to delete.
