Dakota STEP 2012 • Test based on the current state standards for math and reading • Added common core questions in math and reading • Slow transition into the new accountability plan
Due to the transition into the new plan, no AYP determinations • High school appealed the graduation rate determination; appeals are to be finalized on September 14th • The SD DOE will be determining classification of Title schools: • Exemplary – School Performance Index (SPI) at or above 5% • Status – SPI at or above 10% • Progressing • Focus • Priority
Report Cards/Reporting • SD DOE contracted with a different company for data disaggregation and report cards • N-size for calculations went from 30 students in subgroups to 10 students in subgroups • Changes in some of the ethnicity terminology • Reporting results requirements to parents and community are still the same • Student reports went home with students the first week of school • Reports to schools and community are being completed

Professional Development – Data Retreat • PASS will go over data – individual scores, content standards results, common core standards results • Tie in the SD content standards for reading to the common core ELA standards • Set goals for reading in ELA as well as science, social studies, and technical subject areas • Set goals for math • Train staff at own buildings
Dakota STEP 2013 • Again will have questions for the common core content areas of math and reading • Second phase of the accountability plan will be implemented • Next year common core standards for math will be implemented into curriculum
Testing 2014 • Smarter Balance will have an online test ready for states to test common core standards • Longer testing window with a little more flexibility • New Accountability Plan will be fully implemented
Other State/District Testing Measures • WriteToLearn for grades 5, 7, & 10; two submissions • Alternative writing for same grades for students who will be taking the Dakota STEP-A • ACCESS testing • North Central Accreditation – NCA – grades K-12 for math and reading; implemented three times a year
