A network of people & organisations bound together by factors such as… Shared identity, culture and/or whakapapa – eg. hapū/iwi or ethnic group Common geography, locality, place Administrative or political arrangements Similar interest or kaupapa eg. voluntary organisation, Māori community group, online “virtual community,” work(Based on OECD, 1998; Royal Commission on Social Policy, 1988) What is a Community?

A 3-way partnership between CG, LG and Communities Aims: a) engage with sectors and groups, expand the scope of current initiatives toward a truly sustainable community b) work as a catalyst and facilitator to engage parties & help mobilise resources, targetting key enablers of sustainble communities c) seek out and test appropriate models, tools & practices d) use the spotlight of the SDPOA to encourage CG and local government engagement & collaboration to support sustainable community outcomes (links to LGA 2002 outcomes process) Sustainable Communities Project
