Getting Started - Overview • How to use your existing desktop software to connect to Office 365. • Install the latest version from Office from your portal, if your subscription includes it. • Connect Outlook to your Office 365 mailbox. • Connect with colleagues, setting up Lync and adding them as contacts. • Get advice for deploying Office 2013 desktop software to your organization.

  3. First log-in Experience • Browse to https://login.microsoftonline.comSave to Favourites. • Reset your password • Use 8 to 16 characters. • Create a strong password that can’t be easily guessed or cracked. Office 365 passwords require at least 3 of the following: • Lowercase letters • Uppercase letters • Numbers (0-9) • Symbols, including: ! @ # $ % ^ & * - _ + = [ ] { } | \ : ‘ , . ? / ` ~ “ < > ( ) ;

  4. First log-in Experience • Small, Medium Business and Enterprise portal • The “Get Started” page is the same for all three organization types • Menu bar and Portal layout • Outlook, People, Calendar, Newsfeed, SkyDrive, Sites • Get familiar with these menus. They appear on the top of every Office 365 page.

The Menu • Outlook (Web App) • First visit will ask you to set your time zone • Calendar and People (Contacts) are part of your mailbox. • Sites • Visit this to start the setup of your personalized portal. • Take a few moments to read the intro page, enter your contact details and upload a picture. • Settings (Gear) Icon • The settings available will be different, depending on what site or service you are in.

First log-in Experience – Office 365 desktop software • Install software for PC or Mac • Lync communications client • Office 2013 Pro Plus • Install Office 2013 Pro desktop software on your computer (if Office is included in your subscription.) • If you are using your existing Office software, launch desktop setup to connect it to Office 365. • If Lync communications is part of your subscription, launch desktop setup to connect it to Office 365.

  10. Connect your existing Microsoft Office Software • Office 2007 and 2010 • Preferably an edition with Outlook included • Enables saving documents directly to SharePoint Online • Install the free document synchronizing software, SkyDrive Pro. (Requires Windows 7 or 8.)

  11. Run Desktop Setup – 2007 & 2010 Click Set up. click Run when prompted, and then follow the instructions. Sign in again with your user ID. Office 365 desktop setup checks your system configuration and installs required updates. Continue to finish up. When the desktop setup finishes, you may need to restart your computer.

Install Office 2013 – included with some plans • Install directly from your web portal • Start using Office 2013 in minutes • Sign into Office • Easily save documents to SharePoint Online, SkyDrive and SkyDrive Pro. • Connect other services such as LinkedIn, YouTube and Facebook. • Make your Office settings follow you – Recent docs and places, start working on a document from where you left off earlier

Connect Outlook to your mailbox • Previous mail settings and accounts are duplicated • Sometimes it’s best to create a new Mail Profile to connect to your Office 365 mailbox. • Control Panel > Mail (Microsoft Outlook 2013) • Show Profile > Add > Name it. • Properties > Email Accounts > New • Your Name, Email Address and Password • Set default profile to use new profile OR set to prompt for Profile
