Butler county’s existing situation • Stable and relatively healthy in an overall economic sense compared to many counties. • New development and redevelopment are realities now and in the foreseeable future: • Cities • Townships • Some communities stronger and healthier than others, which is a function of: • Historical development patterns, plans and policies in the County and region. • More recent demographic and economic trends. • Generally stable government fiscal conditions, but future threats on the horizon unless managed due to: • Long term factors and trends • Most recent recession • Future demands for public capital will grow for both redevelopment and new development.
Idb feasibility in butler county • Top Priorities from Working Group: Workforce development and fiber optic ring, with transportation improvement as a back-up. • Feasibility: Positive signs and the need exists, but the IDB must be demonstrated in a specific application to show IDB value. • Current Readiness: Because of changes in Port Authority (the Champion), action unlikely at county level at least over the next six months. • CPI Observed Priorities: Agreement with Working Group priorities, but also see the potential value for a larger IDB approach consisting of ED and CD operating funds, incentives, and development infrastructure, if fiscal crisis occurs in the future, or local governments within the County adopt a more coordinated and integrated approach to development in the future.
Options for butler county • Select a single demonstration project application of the IDB: • Countywide • Community • Possible demonstration project ideas: • Workforce development accelerator to speed the creation of the workforce of the future in Butler County – Agile and flexible workforce. • F/O ring workforce development applications for employers and workers/job seekers • Community application in any area
