What is a subject? • Subject: the noun in the sentence that is doing or being something. • The teacher fell. • The apples are ripe. • Martha walked to the store.
What is a predicate? • Predicate: the verb which describes what the subject is doing or being. • The teacher fell. • The apples are ripe. • Martha walked to the store.
Subject + Predicate = Simple Sentence • A simple sentence is, well, simple. It is basic and multiple simple sentences is boring. • The teacher fell. • The apples are ripe. • Martha walked to the store. • So what do we do?
Simple Sentence + Conjunction + Simple Sentence = Compound sentence • Combine simple sentences that are related for better sentence fluency. • Conjunctions to use: FOR, AND, NOR, BUT, OR, YET, SO • FANBOYS!!!
