When Policies Apply • You must follow these policies whenever 6 or more band members are together. • It’s never a bad idea to follow these policies.
Responsible Use Policies • Use of alcohol must be consistent with all campus, city, county, and state law. • No drinking by anyone under 21. • No possession/use/sale of illegal drugs or controlled substances. • No driving under the influence.
Responsible Use Policies • If someone’s alcohol consumption reaches an irresponsible level: • Confiscate alcohol • Escort to a safe place and look after them • If alcohol poisoning is suspected, call 911 and/or take to hospital
No glass containers No kegs No loud music after 2am No noise that can be heard from the street No fighting Must have a first aid kit Must have list of emergency contacts Responsible Use Policies
Sober Members & Drivers • Members of the band will pledge to remain sober • SM’s will help everyone stay safe and follow the policies • SD’s will be available to drive people home safely
Door Policies • Can’t bring alcohol if under 21 • Can’t come in if you’re visibly intoxicated • Can’t leave with an open container of alcohol • Guest list
Guest List Policy • All enrolled band members are on the guest list • Add others to guest list through directors before party • Band members can sponsor one person not on the guest list, and take responsibility for their actions
Judicial Board • Consists of CEO, AEO, and section leaders • Reviews infractions of policy • All decisions must be approved by directors
About the Authors • Policy is student written • Policy is student presented • Policy is student enforced • This is our band, and looking after each other is everyone’s responsibility
Underlying Goal • We just want everyone to be able to have fun and to be safe. • “It’s not a problem until it’s a problem, and then it’s a problem.” -- Stephan Lamb • The measures that have the biggest impact can’t be put in writing.
Common Sense Rules • You know your limits better than anyone. Don’t let yourself get past your limit. • Remember, the actions of one individual can be reflected upon the entire band.
Common Sense Rules • Look after your friends. • Even if you aren’t an “official” SM, you can still look out for people, give them a ride, etc. • Be respectful of your hosts, or we might not have a place to party next time!
Conclusion • Sign acknowledgement form. • Risk Management Policy is printed in the Band Book, but we have a few copies if you want one now. • Questions?
