Study of the use of .aero names • Review of 220 randomly selected names (5% of total) • 60% resolve to web sites • 49% have active web sites with aviation content • 12% parked (26 names, mostly DomainBank.com) • Only 2 web sites with content without clear links to aviation • 17 active web sites for 3-letter airport codes
Registry migration to Afilias • Phase 1 completed on Feb 16 • All key registry systems operated/under responsibility of Afilias • registry database, who-is, DNS, registrar service • New functionality “Manage your .aero ID” on www.information.aero • Most web site content hosted by CORE • Phase 2 expected completion August 1, 2006 • “Pending-create” - request ID when registering name • Higher granularity of registration privileges and transparency for registrants • Ability to reconcile with industry coding systems • Full web site hosting
Registrant feedback concerning reserved names Since last DAC meeting in Oct. 2005, SITA has received the following inquiries concerning unsuccessful registrations: • 12 inquiries about registration of airport codes by non airports: ADV, GSE, ASN, GPA, LMS, MAL, UTA, NEA, RCF, RMC, AMA, TIK, AGS, ADA, JRA, BFS, AIR, NAS, ETS. • 1 request for registration of the 2-letter airline code AA.aero by a non-airline customer.

.aero Renewal proposal • Key requirements • Remove the obligation to ONLY use ICANN registrars • Maintain delegation of policy development rights • Call for more active role of ICANN regarding new TLD acceptance issue • Submitted to ICANN on December 16, 2006 • Deadline for objections against renewal Feb 6, 2006 • 2 registrars against removing the obligation to only use ICANN registrars • 1 individual objecting to renewal in principle • 1 individual calling for same pricing of all TLDs • All comments here: http://forum.icann.org/lists/aero-renewal/ • SITA formulating written response to objections raised • Expect negotiations to commence in May 2006
