BACKGROUND • Local Government Act 2000 • Scrutiny powers to include the power to report on matters which affect the authority’s area or the inhabitants of that area • Only Members of Council Executive and Council staff under compulsion to cooperate

CRIME AND DISORDER REDUCTION PARTNERSHIP • Established under Crime and Disorder Act 1998 • Comprising of: • Council • Primary Care Trust • Police • Fire Authority • Police Authority
CDRP REFORM PROGRAMME • Partnerships need to be: • Effectively led – enhanced role for Cabinet Member • Responsive and accountable to communities – • Formalising local scrutiny powers over CDRP’s • Introducing Community Call for Action • Require CDRP’s to engage and communicate with their communities • Intelligence led
COMMUNITY CALL FOR ACTION • Covers local crime and disorder matters • Power to originate rests with member of public • If Councillor declines to refer matter to OSC, member of public can ask Executive to look at it and Executive can refer to OSC • Similar Community Call for Action in Local Government Bill to address local government concerns
