  2. After surviving cancer, life can be improved remarkably by taking simple steps. Your overall sense of good health and quality of your life after your cancer treatment will depend entirely on how you conduct yourself. There are several things to be done in order to maintain good health and to make sure that you live like nothing happened in the past.

  3. Like a cancer survivor, you would also be eager to get back to your normal life and good health at the earliest. However, hurrying does not help much as you need time to recover. While cancer treatment centers keep patients under constant surveillance and monitor, when you are all on your own post recovery, you have to watchful. Beyond the initial recovery, there are many ways of improving long-term health as well so that the years ahead of you can be enjoyable and free from any complications.

There are certain recommended guidelines for cancer survivors, not really different from that of the common suggestions for anyone willing to improve their health. • Exercising • Eating a healthy and nutritious diet • Maintaining healthy weight • Avoiding tobacco and smoking These are some of the simple steps that can help in improving the overall quality of life and smoothing the transition into your new found role of survivorship.

  6. Exercising Regularly Regular exercise will be important in the sense that after your treatment it will keep you fit and even speed up your recovery. According to studies, cancer survivors who exercise regularly are likely to experience increased strength, stamina and endurance. They will have fewer signs of depression and mood swings, which is a remarkable improvement. Less anxiety and reduced fatigue keeps patients in good mood. Lastly, they have improved self-esteem and confidence.

Physical activity should be added to the daily routine; whether it is simple walking, jogging or running, or making some lifestyle changes that becomes exercise in disguise, such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator, it is worth making these small and significant changes. Exercising will have several benefits and there are studies that reveal that it could also reduce the chances of cancer recurrence and death.

  8. Eating a Balanced Diet You should have a varied diet that includes lots of fresh fruits and green vegetables, along with whole grains. When it is time to select your entrees, you can follow the guidelines laid down by the American Cancer Society.

It is recommended to eat at least 5 or more servings of vegetables and fruits per day. • Always eat healthy fats, such as omega 3 fatty acids, instead of saturated or Trans fats. • Select proteins containing low saturated fat like lean meats, fish, nuts, eggs, legumes and seeds. • Always opt for healthy carbohydrates like legumes, whole grains, vegetables and fruits. Eating a combination of all these foods will ensure that you get ample vitamins and essential nutrients that will make your body much stronger.
