NHAI and Korea Expressway Corporation to Come Together to Resolve Traffic Problem In a bid to improve the traffic management system of the Indian Highway Network, the National Highway Authority of India is planning to sign an agreement with the Korea Expressway Corporation. The Korea Expressway Corporation is known to run the toll roads of South Korea. The corporation has done some extraordinary work in construction and operations of expressway network in the Republic of Korea that has brought it in the international limelight. It holds the expertise in various segments; few of them are construction, toll collection, incidental business and supporting business. Apart from being expert in the heavy-duty construction work such as tunnels, bridges, expressways, the corporation also has significant expertise in providing the maintenance services, emergency response, structure rehabilitation, and real-time and three-dimensional road management services. The Korea Expressway Corporation can help NHAI to employ the best technology not only for traffic management but in other things also. An official source from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways of India has said that the Centre has installed 4-View processors that enable the deployed personnel to see over 70 separate images of the highway. The on-duty personnel can view the entire highway network on their screen, and this system also allows them to track the vehicle quickly just by entering a vehicle registration number in it. This is not the first time that the Korea Expressway Corporation is helping the Indian government with their expertise, earlier, on 18th February 2018, with the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Corporation in Mumbai. Under this agreement, the corporation will help in promoting the technological cooperation for the 70-km long Nagpur-Mumbai Expressway project. The Korea Expressway Corporation is currently reviewing the traffic volume, and then according to the data, it will design a technical support for the traffic management. The NHAI has already started taking the initiative to address the issue of heavy traffic congestion near the major Toll Plazas of the country, as they are planning to install the video surveillance system at the ten major toll plazas to control the traffic congestion and bottlenecks.
