When I Have Fears That I May Cease To Be • When I have fears that I may cease to be Before my pen has glean'd my teeming brain,Before high-piled books, in character, Hold like rich garners the full ripen'd grain;When I behold, upon the night's starr'd face, Huge cloudy symbols of a high romance,And think that I may never live to trace Their shadows, with the magic hand of chance;And when I feel, fair creature of an hour, That I shall never look upon thee more,Never have relish in the fiery power Of unreflecting love;--then on the shoreOf the wide world I stand alone, and thinkTill love and fame to nothingness do sink.

  3. Analysis • In the poem John Keats, the author, fears death and knowing what will become of him. John Keats fears that he will lose his writing, his fame and his chance of love.

  4. John Keats • Although he died at a young age, John Keats was considered one of the most gifted romantic poets. Keats began writing at age 18, and managed to establish himself as a major poet by the time of his death at age 25. • Keats composed masterpieces, including numerous sonnets, narrative poems and five odes. • Keats did not share the social and political concerns that his contemporaries shared. Although his work reflects the powerful emotions typically found in romantic poetry, Keats was more concerned with the qualities of beauty and with the private emotions of individuals, such as the joys or pains of love and anxieties inspired by an uncertain future.
