  1. Future Meetings for TSG-S TSG-S Chair Nick Yamasaki (KDDI) tsgs_chair@3gpp2.org 2 August 2011

  2. Status of Work in 3GPP2 • The major fields of standardization in 3GPP2, as defined in 3GPP2 Future Workshop held in Osaka in 2008, are: • 1x Enhancement • HRPD Enhancement • Interworking with Non-3GPP2 systems • Femto Cells Most of these items are either substantially complete or in Stage 2/Stage 3 development. Once current TSG-S items in development (e.g., S.P0139 Femtocell System Overview) are complete, there will be very little additional work on requirements or security. • Now 3GPP2 embarks on its next phase of activities.

  3. Status of Work in TSG-S • Documents published this year: • S.R0139-0 v1.0 Femtocell and Picocell System Overview • S.R0144-0 1x Calling Party Number Presentation (CPNP) during e1xCSFB Stage 1 Requirements • S.S0145-0 Advanced Security Framework for HRPD and eHRPD Systems • Requirements development in process • M2M SRD • RAN Power Mgmt SRD • Femtocell/picocell SRD • USSD SRD • Downloadable Credentials (eUICC) • Femto and M2M Impact must be considered wrt 3GPP2 NAM • PMT activities are on-going, primarily based on monthly conference calls. • Security issues need to be investigated wrt M2M and Downloadable credentials. • Other WIs may be issued in the future (e.g., SON).

  4. Chair’s Assessment of Future TSG-S Work • WG1: Requirements work will decrease substantially in 2012. Much of the development work can be successfully progressed using GTM tool. However, joint TSG sessions at face-to-face meetings are important. • WG2: Technical work is conducted in conjunction with other TSGs, especially TSG-X. TSG-S meeting is for admin processing only. • WG3: Number of new WIs will decrease substantially in 2012 and process documents will become stable. Monthly GTM calls have been very successful in progressing work. • WG4: Participation has been minimal. Based on low participation, technical development using GTM is viable.

  5. TSG-S Meetings for 2012 and Beyond • TSG-S will not meet at the following face-to-face meetings. These meetings will be replaced with WG and Plenary conference calls: • February 2012 China • August 2012 USA • For meetings where TSG S will not meet face-to-face, TSG-S Plenaries conference calls (GTM sessions) will be scheduled via GTM at the same time locally for the venue as the TSG-S opening and closing Plenaries are normally scheduled. • RECOMMENDATION: Joint meetings at these face-to-face sessions should be scheduled as follows (to maximize global participation remotely via GTM sessions): • Asia face-to-face venue 8-10 AM venue time • US east coast face-to-face venue 8-10 AM venue time • US central (Chicago) face-to-face venue 8-10 AM venue time • US west coast face-to-face venue 5-7 PM venue time • Some TSG-S WGs may consider monthly conference call schedules similar to current PMT interim conference calls.

  6. 3GPP2 Meeting Plan for 2012 • 6-9 Feb 2012 China • 16-19 Apr 2012 Probably Chicago (SC/OP meeting will be 23 Apr 2012) • 11-14 Jun 2012 Korea • 6-9 Aug 2012 Target USA but MPT may cancel this meeting • 15-19 Oct 2012 Japan (SC/OP meeting will be 22 Oct 2012) • 10-13 Dec 2012 Maui, HI
