Almost 2,000 years ago, a “gospel meeting” took place in a town called Caesarea. As our own meeting begins today, we can learn some things by examining what took place at that ancient gospel meeting. What are the “ingredients” for a good gospel meeting?
For A Successful Gospel Meeting… • A preacher was sent for
Cornelius was instructed… “Send to Joppa, and have Simon, who is also called Peter, brought here; and he shall speak words to you by which you will be saved, you and all your household.” Acts 11:13-14
And Peter went down to the men and said, “Behold, I am the one you are looking for; what is the reason for which you have come?” And they said, “Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous and God-fearing man well spoken of by the entire nation of the Jews, was divinely directed by a holy angel to send for you to come to his house and hear a message from you.” Acts 10:21-22
A preacher was sent for. Just as God sent Peter to Caesarea to preach to Cornelius, He has through His providence brought Bob Hutto to Athens this week to speak words of salvation to us.
For A Successful Gospel Meeting… • A preacher was sent for. • Others (family, friends) have been invited.
And on the following day he (Peter) entered Caesarea. Now Cornelius was waiting for them, and had called together his relatives and close friends. Acts 10:24
Others (family, friends) have been invited. Have we done as Cornelius…have we thought enough of our family & friends to invite them to come and hear the message of salvation?
For A Successful Gospel Meeting… • A preacher was sent for. • Others (family, friends) have been invited. • A ready and willing audience.
And so I sent to you immediately, and you have been kind enough to come. Now then, we are all here present before God to hear all that you have been commanded by the Lord. Acts 10:33
A ready and willing audience. Can Cornelius’ words be ours…will we be present each assembly? Will each of us be ready to hear all that God has commanded?
For A Successful Gospel Meeting… • A preacher was sent for. • Others (family, friends) have been invited. • A ready and willing audience. • The gospel truth must be taught.
And opening his mouth, Peter said: “I most certainly understand now that God is not one to show partiality, but in every nation the man who fears Him and does what is right, is welcome to Him.” Acts 10:34-35
“And He ordered us to preach to the people, and solemnly to testify that this is the One who has been appointed by God as Judge of the living and the dead. Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins.” Acts 10:42-43
The gospel truth must be taught. We have every confidence bro. Hutto will teach us the gospel truth… - …if we are in need of salvation - …if we are in need of living better as disciples of Jesus Christ
