Called to Serve Reaffirming the Lordship of Christ in My Life as I fulfill my Place in the Body of Christ
Called to. . . .? We are called by God to serve our world in the inspiration and power of the Lord.
The First Call. . . . We are ALL called: To live a life of love To pursue a Godly—Holy—lifestyle To be disciplemakers
The Call to Holiness. . . . There is nothing that happens to us in life that gives us the right to be ungodly. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do, for it is written, “Be holy, because I am holy.” -I Peter 1:15-16, Leviticus 11:45 . . .without holiness, no one will see the Lord. -Hebrews 12:14
Equipped to Serve The One who created us in divine image and commissioned us to help others discover their created identity and purpose, also equips us to serve our world in the inspiration and power of the Holy Spirit. EMPOWERED But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses. . . -Acts 1: 8a
GIFTED Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. -I Corinthians 12: 7 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. -I Corinthians 12:27
Our Common Calling There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men. -I Corinthians 12: 4-6
My Witness. . . -To God daily of my devotion to Him. -Through the proper stewardship of my life -In the Godly care of my relationships within the Body of Christ -In service to my world (the Godly care of all my relationships!) -Through telling the story of my life in Christ
Some Are Also Called. . . It was he who gave some to be. . . -Ephesians 4:11
The vocational call never releases us from the first call. The first call is always at the heart of fulfilling the vocational call.
The Differences We Possess Personality Preferences Experiences Expectations Calling Gifting Work style Talents and abilities Communication style Spiritual maturity Leadership style Thought processing
The differences we possess can provide great strength to the Body of Christ and the mission of Christ in the world—or great weakness, depending on our spirit and our attitude. God intends for our differences to be used for the good of the Body of Christ, to lead it to growth and maturity and service.
If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.
Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Jesus Christ. -Philippians 2: 1-5
