A bit of background • VIVA comprises • 6 public doctoral institutions • 9 public 4-year comprehensive colleges and universities • 24 community and 2-year branch colleges (at 40 campuses) • 33 of Virginia's independent (private, not-for profit) colleges and universities • Selected other educational and research institutions
A bit of background Central statistics processing Institution level 34 products Two years ago, goal was to reduce processing time, facilitate storage over time, and provide means for easy retrieval of multi-year reports.
A bit of background COUNTER grew with us… COUNTER reports are now available for 19 of those products. COUNTER’s standard format streamlines processing and data storage. COUNTER has implemented a report specifically designed to meet the needs of consortia.
Moving faster… Standard format (repeat after me… standard format, standard format, standard format… cannot stress this enough) Statistics can be “batched” for processing. The COUNTER CR1 consortial report will mean one report for all of a consortium’s institution. No more downloading individual reports!!!!
Storage over time The standardized format of COUNTER reports facilitates transfer of data from the spreadsheets to a database for long term storage Storing the data in a database allows for optimal flexibility, and ample storage space.
Database table…. LIVE VIEW!!!!
And charting… Ooh, live again, pretty cool!
The meat and potatoes… How do you do it, you ask…??? And we’re live from here on in….
