How It Works How It Works • Visual Reports works by first creating a local database (.mdb file) that contains data from your project. • From there a local cube is built (.cub file) and then hooked up to a PivotChart in Excel or a PivotDiagram in Visio. Access Database (.mdb) Local OLAP Cube (.cub) Excel Visio
What is a cube? Tasks Phase1 Phase2 Chris Aston Resources Brad Sutton Work 40 hrs 30 hrs 60 hrs 50 hrs 80 hrs 100 hrs 180 hrs Group: IW Total Jan. Feb. • The cubes are completely separate from the server cubes. • There are six different cubes to create reports off of – resource, task, and assignment in both summary and usage (time phased) flavors.
MSP2007 Visual Reports • Eye-catching reports in MS Excel & MS Visio • Pivot Tables (MS Excel) • Pivot Charts and Graphs (MS Excel) • Hierarchical Pivot Diagrams (MS Visio) • Take advantage of visuals and advanced formatting in MS Excel & MS Visio • Boxed templates or create your own & share

Modifying Visual Reports • Modifying Visual Reports: • Modifying Existing Reports • Recommend NEVER modifying an existing report • Creating New Visual Report Templates: • Creating New Template Reports • Click on New Template • Six OLAP Cubes contain combinations of field data: Must select data type • Task Usage • Resource Usage • Assignment Usage • Task Summary • Resource Summary • Assignment Summary Let’s see how to do this….
Creating New Visual Reports Select Data Types: Task Usage Resource Usage Assignment Usage Task Summary Resource Summary Assignment Summary
Saving the Reporting Cube • Saving the Reporting Cube • Can be saved to a .cub or .mdb file • Useful if you want to FURTHER ANALYZE DATA in MS Excel or MS Access • Choose the Data Type for the CUBE (.cub) or DATABASE (.mdb): • Task Usage • Resource Usage • Assignment Usage • Task Summary • Resource Summary • Assignment Summary
