  5. RDS-6 • 4 August 1953: Soviet Union’s first Hydrogen bomb • Smaller than America’s; easier to deploy

  6. Castle Bravo • March 1, 1954: American H-bomb • Tested on Bikini Atoll island • After effects of the bomb spread past the testing site and began to affect civilians

  7. Tsar Bomba • Oct 30, 1961: Bomb created by the Soviet Union. • the most powerful explosive weapon to be created.

  8. Sputnik(1) • October 4, 1957: first man-made satellite, developed by the Soviet Union • Sputnik 2 (1957) is the one that carried Laika, the first animal launched into orbit

  9. Star Wars • 1983: Program to develop an anti-ballistic missile system in order to prevent missile attacks • Nuclear X-rays lasers • Subatomic particle beams • Computer-guided projectiles • All under control of a supercomputer system
