Moved to Texas with his family in 1873
Graduated from Marmaduke Military Academy in Sweet Springs, Missouri in 1891.
Married Frances L. Race on February 14, 1893

3. The Camps beginning Established as Camp Palacios in 1925 as a training camp for the 36th infantry (Texas national guard)
Land was donated from people in the Palacios area

4. The camps info It was built on 1,200 acres of land
When it was built, it had a sewer system, running water, electricity, a hospital, a few churches, a post office, a movie theater, recreational buildings and a fire house
The name was changed to camp hulen in 1930
Housed anywhere from 6,000 to 9,000 soldiers at one time from 1925 - 1944

5. War!!! Soon after pearl harbor, most of the soldiers were mobilized, but there were still soldiers stationed there
Was used as a anti-aircraft training facility during this time
From 1944 to the end of the war, camp hulen was used as a German POW camp 6/5/2012 J. J. Vernon and Nathaniel Gardner
6. After World War II In 1946, it was given back to state of Texas for training of the national guard.
Instead of using it for training the national guard slowly disassembled it for spare parts in 1950

7. What happened to Camp Hulen? Part of it is now a Municipal airport
