  2. ”EU Strategy for the Danube Region” should • boost the region’s sustainable economic and social development • remove political, economic and other obstacles left after the communist era • coordinate individual countries’ endeavor to overcome real-life bottlenecks • target EU Cohesion Policy and Funds in the 2013 – 2017 program period through joint macro-regional projects with additional multiplier effects • safeguard the region’s cultural heritage diversity, knowledge, understanding ...

Slovakiawill support measures and join actions that • improve transport and mobility interconnectivity through modern infrastructure • TEN-Tpriority projects (rail and road) completion • the Danube waterway navigabilityfor 300 days/year at minimum - unified nautical conditions and parameters comparable to those of the Rhine area • North Sea – Baltic Sea – Black Sea transportconnection (water, rail, road) • pursue environmental protection and biodiversity preservation • the Danube - European effective eco-transport corridor • the drinking water resource protection Slovakia’s “Wheat Island” - Europe’s largest underground drinking water reservoir (20 m3/second) of a high quality used practically without any treatment • the Danube basin countries’ effective flood protection • develop sustainable tourism and travel models • joint Danube destination products & marketing, municipality-business cooperation

TEN-T Revision and the Strategy for Danuge Region • ensuring a high-quality road and rail infrastructure connecting each NUTS III region in order to provide accessibility to the TEN-T network • improving interconnections from the Baltic Sea, Black Sea and Adriatic Sea ports to the hinterland • extending the principal EU Trans-European Transport axes to neighbouring countries (Ukraine) as a viable alternativeto encourage the regional and Euroasian economic development • new networking reflecting EU strategies and policies, primarily through priority projects, rail freight corridors and interconnections with third countries • EU funding for the entire TEN-T network – core as well as comprehensive one - taking into account various Member States’ starting positions (“EU new-comers”) • Danube basin countries’ infrastructure development coordinationin promoting their competitiveness and smart, sustainable and inclusive growth (Visegrad 4 coordination)
