ASK ME A QUESTION: TO HELP GET IDEAS FLOWING BEGIN BY TELLING A STORY • GET INTO GROUPS OF 2-3 • EACH PERSON WILL NEED A PIECE OF PAPER • EACH PERSON WILL HAVE A CHANCE TO BE THE STORYTELLER • THE STORYTELLER WILL SHARE THEIR STORY WITH THE GROUP AND THE LISTENERS WILL WRITE DOWN 3 QUESTIONS TO ASK THE STORYTELLER. THE LISTENERS ARE NOT TO RESPOND OR COMMENT TO THE STORYTELLER. THE LISTENERS WILL GIVE THE PAPER WITH THEIR QUESTIONS ON IT TO THE STORYTELLER. THE STORYTELLER WILL ANSWER THOSE QUESTIONS. • THE ROLES WILL SHIFT THROUGH THE GROUP

Show me, Don’t just tell me Details can make all the difference! Which details do you add and how do you include them???? A “telling statement” is a general sentence. (blah) A “showing statement” uses sensory details and paints a picture for the reader. It is much more focused, interesting, and detailed. A “showing statement” keeps the reader interested.
Telling Statement: The roller coaster was scary. Showing Statement: Oh my goodness, the newest and most scariest roller coaster ever! I just had to try it out! Then I got on the roller coaster. I pulled the seat belt over me and buckled myself up first. It started out as deliberate as a turtle. It got a little bit faster. Ahhhh! it’s really, really fast. I feel like my appendix are about to explode. I think my heart is about to come out of my mouth. The ride is almost over. Now we’re slowing down. It’s over now. And thank goodness. I unbuckled the seat belt and got out of the roller coaster. - Ryan
