  2.  All Hallows Eve • Halloween is Celebrated on October 31st • October 31stbecame All Hallows Eve, a time where the ghosts of the dead could return to destroy the harvest that was stored for winter • The holiday traces back to the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain. • Traditional activities include trick-or-treating, bonfires, costume parties, visiting "haunted houses" and carving jack-o-lanterns. • Marking the end of harvest and the beginning of the new year

  3. Halloween Traditions • Initial reports of mass-produced costumes date to as early as the 1930s. They really took off with the rise of trick-or-treating. • For costumes some people wore masks and other cloaks to avoid being recognized by evil spirits. • Jack-o-lanterns tradition began with folks believing that carving scary faces onto turnips would frighten away evil spirits.
