  1. Pendulum Lab Working with Pendulums

  2. What we are doing • Using the information that you have learned about energy and what you have already done with lab writeups • Devise a procedure that looks at the variables that affect each of the following parts of pendulous motion • Keep good notes!

  3. I will be looking for… • Prelab: • Definitions and Diagram (to follow—underlined info) • Questions you are trying to answer (in your groups today) • Variables that you are going to change (in your groups) • Lab Data • Data in tables please • Charts if necessary • Procedure that you followed • Any other observations

  4. I will be looking for: • Writeup: • Follow format in your cheat sheet (what we have been doing all year! • Come up with the answers to the questions that you were looking for!

  5. Definitions: • Bob • The mass that swings • Length • The distance from the pivot point to the Center of the bob • Amplitude • The vertical distance pulled back from rest

  6. Definitions: • Cycle or Vibration • One full swing, over and back • Frequency (f) • The vibrations (swings) made over a certain time. • F=cycles/time

  7. definitions • Period of the pendulum • Time it takes for one cycle to be completed • Measured in seconds • T=time/frequency(f)

  8. Copy this down! This will help you greatly!

  9. Questions?

  10. How does Mass affect frequency? Test for mass. Change Mass, but keep amplitude and length same

  11. How does Amplitude affect F? Test for Amplitude. Change Amplitude, but keep mass and length same

  12. How does Length affect FreQ? Test for Length. Change Length, but keep amplitude and mass same

  13. Groups! Group 1 Group 2

  14. Groups! Group 3 Group 4

  15. Groups! Group 5 Group 6

  16. Groups! Group 7 Group 8
