The Yacht • “There was no sound in the night as Rainsford sat there but the muffled throb of the engine that drove the yacht swiftly through the darkness, and the swish and ripple of the wash of the propeller” • Throughout the setting, We learn that it is night, and everything seems to be ok. Rainsford is alone smoking after his personal conversation with Whitney. He then hears gunshots off in the distance. Knowing Rainsford, he might go check it out.

3. The Jungle • “I needed a new animal. I found one. So I bought this island, built this house, and here I do my hunting. The island is perfect for my purposes—there are jungles with a maze of trails in them, hills, swamps—” • Throughout the setting we learned that whatever the General hunts doesn’t have much of a chance, due to he seems to know where everything is on the island, but the general doesn’t seem to reveal the animal. This trait shows that he isn’t to sure about sharing with Rainsford.

4. The Bedroom • “At ten he went up to his bedroom. He was deliciously tired, he said to himself as he locked himself in. There was a little moonlight, so before turning on his light, he went to the window and looked down at the courtyard. He could see the great hounds” • The setting seems to show that the General won and Rainsford died by the ocean. The general seems to have pity for the dogs and shows no remorse for his lost servant. The night is a bit eerie with only the moonlight, and he is tired, but is Rainsford really dead? Perhaps he could have survived…
