National Digital Learning Repository Sharing Digital Learning Resources for University Teaching Dr Vincent Wade FTCD, Co-ordinator National Digital Learning Repository, University of Dublin, Trinity College Vincent.Wade@cs.tcd.ie
“If collections (of learning material) on which individuals have worked hard are forgotten or neglected, as some already seem to be, we will end upre-creating, re-discovering and re-describing materials many times over” (Holden 2003)
What is the NDLR? NDLR is a NATIONAL online service for Irish Universities and Institutes of Technology supporting the collaboration and sharing of learning and teaching resources. Pilot project Goal: • Producing a full ongoing repository service for “Teaching and Learning Resources” • Developing and supporting communities of academics in different academic disciplines A joint initiative of the IUA Universities and institutes of Technology, funded by the HEA, and hosted by HEAnet
NDLR Partners • Trinity College Dublin • University College Dublin • University of Limerick • Dublin City University • University College Cork • National University of Ireland, Galway • National University of Ireland, Maynooth • Dublin Institute of Technology In association with: • HEAnet Ireland • Dublin Institute of Technology • Athlone Institute of Technology • IT Blanchardstown • IT Carlow • Cork IT • Dundalk IT • Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design & Technology • Galway-Mayo IT • Letterkenny IT • Limerick IT • Sligo IT • IT Tallaght • IT Tralee • Waterford IT
National Repositories for Learning ? Learning Repository: enables the storage, discovery and retrieval of learning materials and their descriptions, from local or distibuted sources The need for Learning Repositories • Resource inaccessibility • Inefficiency in strategy of commercially produced content • The google effect • Support for communities (Jorum 2006)
