  2. What is a culture? A culture is a group of people who live in similar ways and have similar beliefs. There are different cultures in different parts of the world.

  4. Clothing Kids from different cultures wear different kinds of clothes. Thailand Ecuador Malaysia

  5. What do your clothes say about you? Clothing India Burma Peru

  6. If you woke up in a different part of the world you might not get to pick out what to wear to school! Children in school uniforms crowd together at recess – Mozambique, Africa Students learning in traditional uniforms – South Korea

  7. How would you feel about wearing a school uniform? France Bali, Indonesia Girls on their way to school – Japan

  8. Classrooms Children learn together after dark – Kenya, Africa Not all classrooms are alike. Some schools are little more than four walls and a tin roof. Many places do not have schools at all. An outdoor classroom where children learn about nature - Scotland A brightly painted nursery school – Kenya, Africa

  9. Classrooms Boarding a boat for class - India Attending school to learn basic things like reading and writing is a great privilege. A temporary tent-style classroom – Sudan Children learning on board the floating classroom - India

  12. Children at Work Many children have jobs to help support themselves and their families. If you had a job how would your life change? Picking cotton – Uzbekistan Herding goats – Mali, Africa Driving a family to their destination - India Packing at harvest time - Afghanistan Selling fresh watermelon - Guatemala Selling flowers in the rain – Bangladesh Helping push a load in the sun - Cuba

  16. What have we learned? • Children have many things in common but they have many differences too! • Kids in different cultures… • 1. Wear different clothes • 2. Learn in different environments • 3. Play in different ways • 4. Have different responsibilities • 5. Eat different foods • 6. Have different kinds of families Ecuador

  17. But remember… Kids are different within cultures too, not just between cultures! Think about your own Canadian culture…
