My Life Manifesto –Refresh Life By: Brandon Rodney
Realize that you are a SOMEONE,not a SOMETHING. • We all have special value as human beings. • Our potential is far greater than that of all other species. • We are living, breathing creatures that have the capacity to think things through, solving problems through logic and reason. • Never let others degrade you to the point where your being solely relies on how well you can operate as a tool, utensil, etc. You are FAR MORE than that.
SHOWING RESPECT for others brings RESPECT BACK TO YOU. • This is probably something you’ve heard teachers paraphrase before. • To earn respect, you generally have to give it out first. • Everyone should strive to utilise this mutual rule, as life generally feels a lot more awesome when people respect you for what you do and who you are.
UNDERSTAND that life is not about how hard you can hit, but is instead about HOW HARD YOU CAN GET HIT AND KEEP ON GOING. • Life is not always going to be easy! • You need to learn how to take on whatever it throws at you, and persevere through the hardships. • Example: You can be a great artist, musician, author, or actor by excelling in the proper, respective area. However, if you cannot manage to take on the critiques, constructive criticisms, or backlashes that may come your way, what was the point of hitting so hard in the first place? • If you turn around and give up because of one hurtful comment, then there was no point in trying so hard to excel in something.
BE TRUETO YOURSELF. • If you are forcing yourself to pursue things that make you unhappy, reassess your situation. • Find what things give value to your life and chase after them instead. • While some may think otherwise, no one knows you better than you.
KEEP AN OPEN MIND to learn ALL SIDES of the story. • Don’t be too judgemental on topics without first experiencing what others have to say. • You will learn more from hearing everyone’s opinion instead of overexerting your own. • You may even realize that your previous thought or belief, had it been carried through, was wrong.
TURN YOUR WEAKNESSES INTO STRENGTHS. • Focus on the areas in your life that you think needs improvement. • Transform your Achilles heel(s) into area(s) that you can count on in the future. • Doing so will allow you to feel more confident in a variety of situations.
The PROBLEMS YOU ARE FACED WITH eventually become the SPICES IN YOUR LIFE. • The craziest, most seemingly impossible situations that happen in your life eventually make for some of the best story telling material in the future. • Overcoming difficult situations can produce momentous instances in life that you can look back on and say, “Hey, I did that.” • No story goes without a type of conflict or opposing factor, as that would make for a dull story.
WINNING ISN’T EVERYTHING. • …”It’s the only thing”… NOT QUITE. • While “winning” can definitely contribute to having an enjoyable experience, it is not the sole factor that determines whether an activity is fun or not. • Partake in activities for the wonder, excitement, and experience they provide. • If you only value winning, how can you enjoy life when you have so much pressure being inflicted on yourself to keep performing better than everyone else? • If, to no one else, you will eventually lose to yourself. You can’t keep the streak going infinitely.
THINK BEFORE YOU ACT. • Probably another point you have heard teachers say in the past. • Acting out of impulse does not generally provide the best long term results. • It is always better to think things through before attempting anything, as that way, you will be more conscious of the decisions you make. • We have been given the gift of knowledge, and it would be quite the waste to let such a gift go unused.
LIVE AND LEARN. • Learn from the mistakes that happen to befall you. • That way, you can prevent the same mistake from happening again in the future. • If you ignore to learn from the mistakes in the past, you are likely to repeat them in the future!
PURSUE YOUR DREAMS. • How boring would life be if you didn’t go after what you wanted? • If you don’t give your life meaning, then it simply won’t have any meaning.
EVERYTHING WILL WORK OUT, IT ALWAYS DOES. • The tried and true formula for my life. • To this day, I haven’t found any exceptions to the statement. • Ex: It’s not “Everything will work out if you are a good person,” or “Everything will work out if you put effort into the things you do.” • It’s simply, “Everything will work out.” There’s no need to question it, because “it always does.” • There are always two sides to every coin. Even in the darkest of times, good things will find their way to you eventually.
~Lyrics~ • “Danger is lurking around every turn, Trust your feelings, got to live and learn! I know with some luck that I'll make it through, Got no other options, only one thing to do! I don't care what lies ahead, No time for guessing, follow my plan instead. Find the next stage, no matter what that may be. Take my lead, I'll set you free.” -Escape From The City by Ted Poley and Tony Harnell • Helps express the Manifesto by inferring that it doesn’t matter what lies ahead, as you can persevere through the bad times if you try.
