  1. International Relations Internships

  2. Live in Geneva, Switzerland; Riga, Latvia; or Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. • Work for the International Trade Centre (Switzerland and Kyrgyzstan), other UN bodies (Switzerland), or Transparency International (Latvia). • Stay either in the fall or winter semesters or during both spring and summer terms.

  3. Internship Tasks International Trade Centre Assist in promoting exports from developing countries. Transparency International Research and analyze corruption in countries. UN Organizations Monitor human rights, health, and women’s status around the globe.

  4. Earn BYU Credit • You must take nine credits of coursework during your semester abroad. • Students earn at least three hours of credit in political science or international relations, but can also work with faculty from their respective majors to set up course contracts.

  5. Program Costs Cost estimates include tuition, housing, airfare, transportation, and food: $2,900–$4,350

  6. Housing • Finding housing is the responsibility of the student. • ISP will provide a lot of useful information, but the ultimate responsibility falls on you. • Connections with local Latter-day Saints may be available.

  7. Funding • All BYU scholarships and Pell Grants can be applied to program costs. • There are opportunities in many colleges/departments that are applicable to the program costs. • Once you are accepted to the program, you will automatically be considered for a small ISP scholarship of between $100 and $500 if you have a current FAFSA form on file at the Financial Aid Office.

  8. What undergraduate opportunities are there with the UN? How competitive is the program? Are there language requirements? What are the chances that I will get the internship with my preferred organization? Can I bring my spouse? Common Concerns

  9. Almost everything is done online. By the application deadline (February 1 for spring/summer and fall, October 1 for winter), submit the following: a letter of intent a resume two letters of recommendation (give to front desk in 280 HRCB) a writing sample ABC Report/transcript $25 application fee Application Requirements

  10. Prep Course The prep course is only for those who have been admitted into the program. It is one credit hour and will be held in the second block of the semester that precedes your internship. (For winter interns, you would take the class in block 2 of the fall semester).
