Transportation & Chaperons • Richfield Bus Co. • Two licensed drivers for overnight travel to and from Minnesota • One licensed driver w/ Washington, D.C., travel experience • Limited wireless access, movie options and emergency bathroom • 4 Staff and 6 Parent Chaperones • 1:4 student-adult ratio
Route to Washington, D.C.: • I-94 through Wisconsin • I-80/90 to Youngstown, Ohio • I-76/70 through Pittsburg to Washington, D.C. • 1-hour tops will be taken roughly every 4 hours at transit centers for refueling, restroom use, and eating • Route from Gettysburg, PA: • I-76/70 to Pittsburg • I-80/90 to Youngstown, Ohio • I-94 through Wisconsin
Housing • 4H Student Center • Students will bunk in groups of three or four • Chaperons’ rooms are distributed throughout the allotment of rooms for Beacon students • Secure, dorm-like setting w/ recreation areas for down-time • Buffett meals
Mall Area Dining • While touring Washington, D.C., students will eat at three places around The Mall with meal vouchers: • Eat at National Place • Ronald Reagan Building • Union Station
Days One & Two • Morning: • Arrive at Arlington National Cemetery • Iwo Jima Memorial • Afternoon: • American History Museum • Washington Monument, WWII Memorial & Korean War Memorial • Evening: • Check into 4H Student Center
Day Three • Morning: • Library of Congress, Supreme Court Building, Capital Building • Afternoon: • American Indian Museum • Air & Space Museum • Evening • Night time viewing?
Day Four • Morning: • Lafayette Square & White House • Einstein Monument, State Department, Vietnam Memorial & Lincoln Memorial • Afternoon: • National Gallery of Art & National Archives • Evening: • Natural History Museum
Day Five • Morning: • MLK Memorial, FDR Memorial & Jefferson Memorial • Remainder of the day: • Holocaust Museum • Smithsonian Castle • TBD
Day Six • Morning: • Mount Vernon • Afternoon: • Travel to Gettysburg, PA • Evening: • Tour Gettysburg Battlefield • Return home
Day 7 • Arrive at Beacon Prep between 5-7 pm • The school will be notified with estimated time of arrival when we are on the return trip
